Time For Your Dining Room To Shine

Updated: Nov 20, 2018

With all the holiday feasts coming up, your dining room will be in the spotlight. Are you ready?

Your dining room is about more than meals, it should fill the space with your family personality.

Lots of decisions go into achieving the right ambiance, starting with style, size, price tag, material type, and color. These seven questions will help you on your way to a dining room that reflects your family and captures your heart.

Does your room feel blah? Shake it up with a new dining room set. Look at all the different styles and see what makes you say ooooh! Country coastal, farmhouse chic, rustic reclaimed or easy transitional? Maybe something with an updated on-trend grey finish, a faux live edge, or maybe a striking marble top? Cleaner, simpler lines are in, which means less dusting.

Is your table big enough? Choose a table with a leaf you can add in or a refractory end leaf that slides out. Presto, you now have room for Aunt Matilda.

Do you have enough seating? It’s easy to add a few more side chairs, don’t worry if they don’t match. Upholstered chairs at the end with wood ones on the side are very popular. Don’t forget benches: you can fit more people cheek to cheek.

When you don’t need them at the table, you can add seating to your entry way or bedroom. You can also use your bar stools at the table.

Do you have an eat-in kitchen nook? Smaller dinette sets are a perfect fit, and some offer built-in storage and flip-up leaves.

How’s the floor? If you’re afraid for your guests to look down there’s an easy fix: pull your design together with a patterned area rug that complements your existing color palette.

Are you organized? Add storage with a buffet, bar cart, sideboard or full china cabinet. Keep those pretty placemats and tablecloths handy and show off your shiniest holiday collectibles.

Do you have a touch of glam? Ornaments aren’t just for the tree! Use a few on your table runner with pine greens or gather in a bowl for a centerpiece.
